Prof. Zongbo Shi

Professor in Atmospheric Biogeochemistry at the University of Birmingham

Zongbo Shi is a professor in Atmospheric Biogeochemistry at the University of Birmingham. Zongbo did his PhD in China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing). He was awarded a JSPS fellowship in 2005 and a NERC (Natural Environment Research Council) Independent Fellowship in 2011. He joined the University of Birmingham as the first Birmingham Fellow. He was appointed as Senior Lecturer in 2017, Reader in 2019 and Professor in 2020. He coordinated the UK-China joint research programme – Atmospheric Pollution and Human Health in a Chinese Megacity (APHH-China, 2016-2021) and is currently leading the commissioning of a nationally unique facility – UK Air Quality Supersite Triplet. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers. He is an associate editor of Environmental Chemistry and PlosOne and serves as a member of the NERC Advisory Network.
