Mineral dust is important for climate through its direct radiative effect on solar and terrestrial radiation and its role in the biogeochemical system.  Aircraft measurements from the DODO (Dust Outflow and Deposition to the Ocean) project are presented, and show seasonal differences in Saharan dust in terms of optical properties, vertical structure and source regions.
