Relatively little is known about the nitrogen-containing organic compounds present in aerosols, despite concerns over their possible contribution to the adverse health effects associated with particulate matter. A highly sensitive and specific method has been developed to carry out ambient measurements of carcinogenic N-nitrosamines and tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs).
