Poor air quality has raised concern in many countries with 7 million premature deaths annually linked to it; the majority in developing countries. The extent and importance of transnational education within the range of international activity of UK higher education institutions have grown rapidly. Through British Council and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan funding a link between the Universities of Essex and the Punjab was established to training an emerging generation of graduates in environmental health and air pollution. Through this programme a number of courses have developed and research projects established.
