Molecular organic chemistry in atmospheric aerosols

Organic compounds are ubiquitous in the lower atmosphere. Accommodation and reaction of vapours on atmospheric particles (aerosols, cloud droplets) represents an important transformation process for many organic molecules. This study presents novel laboratory measurements and detailed numerical modelling results which aim to better characterise particle-phase organic chemistry. In particular, the following questions are addressed:

  1. What are the timescales for different particle-phase reactions?
  2. How does aerosol chemical composition influence reactivity?
