Different techniques for investigating immersion freezing do not necessarily yield similar results. This study compares results for a fly ash sample examined on a cold stage, where the investigated droplets are made directly from suspensions, and from a flow tube, where droplets form on freely floating, size segregated particles produced either via dry dispersion or via atomization of suspensions with subsequent drying. The results significantly differ in all cases, with possible reasons still being under investigation.
