Importance of Chemical Composition of Ice Nuclei on the Formation of Arctic Ice Clouds and Cloud Radiative Forcing.

In this research, it is shown that the best ice nucleation parameterization to simulate Arctic ice clouds observed during the ISDAC field experiment is based on the classical nucleation theory using contact angles based on laboratory studies. It is also shown that the chemical composition of ice nuclei (IN) on which the contact angle depends, determines the ice cloud microstructure and affects the cloud radiative forcing at the TOA.
