Direct comparison of immersion and contact freezing under simulated atmospheric conditions

Results of immersion and contact freezing experiments in the Mainz vertical wind tunnel will be presented. Nucleating properties of mineral dust particles (e.g., illite, feldspar), and biological particles (cellulose) will be provided, mainly focusing on the temperature, INP concentration, and specific surface area dependences of the freezing processes. Direct comparisons between the different nucleation modes (immersion and contact freezing) will also be presented.
